ASTM international standard tests will soon be carried out for Silex element products.
Peau de Béton™ (PDB) panels must not be installed on substrates exposed to intense heat of more than 200° C (392° F).

Here are some other recommendations:

The heat coming from the hearth must not directly lick Peau de béton.

Either there must be a deflector or Peau de béton must be placed at least 16" from the upper edge of the fireplace window

It is important to note that you should avoid using Peau de Béton | metal finish as heat may damage the color of these panels.

Waxed concrete coatings can be applied around your fireplace.

No, Silex element products cannot be installed outdoors. They are designed for interior application only!

  1. Peau de Béton | raw finish is a fiber cement panel covered with a thin layer of concrete handcrafted in Montreal. It is thin, ultralight, durable and resistant to fire and moisture. It has a similar look and feel to "real" concrete.
  2. Peau de Béton | metal finish is a fiber cement panel covered with a thin layer of concrete that has a metallic appearance. This metal finish is achieved through a mixture of recycled and natural metal dust.
  3. LightConcrete is a fiber cement panel covered with a microlayer of concrete.
  4. The waxed concrete coating is composed of very fine mortar and is colored by pigmentation.

Here is a table that shows the different places where the panels can be installed.

What glue should I use to install my panels or chevrons ?

It is important to use a construction glue that is not water-based to install Silex element panels.

Silex Element recommends the use of the Adbond Extreme 5692 adhesive to fix their panels to a support. It is available toorder here.
